The Ultimate Western Adventure!
Depart from Durango and travel north towards Silverton on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, an American Heritage Railway. A true western legacy, this rail line was completed in 1882, and has been in operation ever since.
Relax and take in the exclusive mountain scenery, up through the verdant Animas River Valley, then past Cascade Canyon. Wind along the Animas River, deep into the Weminuche Wilderness, until intersecting with the celebrated Colorado Trail at Elk Creek Park. The train will slow to a halt, allowing you to disembark, and your guide will be waiting to meet you on horseback.
From there, take on the rare privilege of bona fide frontier transportation: forge through the most magnificent section of the Colorado Trail, mounted upon one of our agile, trained horses. On a clear day, you will see over 20 different mountain peaks as you ride to the top of the pass. 'Cross river, grassland, and pine forest; the scenic photo opportunites are endless!
Once you've reached the top at Molas Lake, take a break and enjoy lunch with the horses. Your guide will transport your party the short distance to Silverton, where you can rendezvous with your shuttle, and return to Durango where the day's journey began.
